MERCEDES AMG M177 (205/253) Upgraded air-to-air Intercooler /w optional Methanol Injection

Here at BlackBoost Performance Engineering we strive to create innovative and industry first products, our C63/c63s Front mount Air to Air intercooler system is no exception to this.  We are the first to create a front mounted Air to air intercooler system for these cars!!  There are many incredible advantages to installing this product on your car, whether it is fully modified or if this is your first upgrade!  Something that is important to understand about the factory air to water intercooler system from Mercedes is that it is not as good as you may think.   Maybe while driving at 200KPH in 10*C weather on the autobahn it works OK, and not even perfectly, as there is such a tremendous amount of airflow at these speeds through the system to keep it cool, and generally temperatures in Germany are very low.   This is what this car was designed to do, but it is far from ideal.  The first thing to consider is that the actual intercooler cores themselves are simply undersized and are overly dense.  Imagine trying to breathe through a straw, you can do it, but it’s not so easy, and the engine feels this way with these factory intercooler cores.  The other problem is that the factory liquid heat exchangers are simply not big enough to keep up with the cooling demands of the intercoolers, and temperatures always exceed what is considered to be even close to acceptable.  Believe it or not Mercedes does not even turn on the water pumps for the factory air to water intercooler system until temperatures have exceeded 50*C!!!  It is normal to log intake air temperatures at 70*-80* C as well!  This disturbing reality is as a result of an attempt to create better emissions compliance, but ultimately just results in a terrible design and will create premature engine failure and very poor flow.  Just when you thought things couldn’t get any worse, they actually can.  The transmission oil is also cooled using the intercooler system’s heat exchangers, which results in both systems running too hot, this can result in premature transmission failure as well as premature engine failure.  It’s a true disaster, and ultimately very sad, because these engines are absolutely incredible, truly over engineered and capable of incredible HP, but the cooling system from the factory is so far from ideal.  This is what led us to create our Front mount Air to Air intercooler system!  There are multiple things that really make this system so incredible.  First off, we are based in the Middle East!  UAE has some of the hottest temperatures in the world, and we have very successfully tested this product in the desert to the limit even while it is 50*C+ outside with humidity levels of 90%!!  No other company in the world can say that.  In fact, these cars from the factory often break after very little time in these conditions, they’re nowhere close to being able to keep up with the cooling demands.  Our air to air intercooler core has a 1500HP rating, and ultimately can keep your car cool regardless of what you ever decide to do with it.  Even running at factory power levels there is no issue with a larger than needed core, it just means things will never get hot!  There’s something else which is extremely special we have done with our system, however.  Instead of simply eliminating the factory Air to water heat exchangers, we have actually kept them on the car!!  Now instead of having 2 engine coolant radiators (1 big and 1 small) from the factory, you have 4 (2 big and 2 small)!!   We linked the entire system together meaning your cooling system is nearly twice as capable as before!  On top of this the transmission cooling system is also linked into this truly overkill system, and you can keep it cool no matter what you do!  Just when you thought cooling couldn’t be improved any more, we have one more addition to these improvements, the oil cooling!  The factory oil cooler has zero ducting air into it, and there is a very low amount of airflow through the oil cooler because of this.  Our intercooler’s Base actually doubles as a ducting for the Factory oil cooler, which means the oil cooling system is also roughly doubled in its efficiency, as so much air is truly forced through the oil cooler with this design!   This means that our product is not just an intercooler system, it is truly a FULL cooling system upgrade for every aspect of the car; the engine’s air, the engine’s coolant, the engine’s oil and the transmission’s oil!   Tested and abused in the UAE desert summer, it’s basically impossible to overheat anything on your car with our product.

There’s actually more to the benefits of what our Air to Air intercooler system can offer.  In the billet portion of this system that adapts to the throttle bodies, which we call the throttle body adapters, we have left provisions that allow you to have additional fuel injectors added if you choose to use this upgrade option.  This means in the event you want to use larger turbochargers, you don’t need to worry about the limits of the factory fueling system!  You can use whatever fuel you’d like in this secondary fueling system too, whether it’s 116 octane race gas or M5 methanol, it’s up to you!  We like having this as an upgradable option on our system as we know many of our customers may eventually use this core’s 1500 hp potential and fueling is a big part of the battle!!  We also fully utilize top of the line vibrant O ring sealed intake couplers, instead of weak rubber or silicone couplers that can fail.  These couplers have been bench tested to survive 800PSI and are truly impossible to break.  You can sleep easy at night knowing there will be no problems with intercooler piping coming off or hose clamps coming loose, as is usually typical from an intercooler upgrade.  Our “over the radiator” Design for our tubing routing is another part of this system which is a true innovation of ours.  It isn’t easier to do this way, but it allowed us to keep our intercooler system’s piping much shorter, guaranteeing the engine will still be extremely responsive!  Another cool feature of this intercooler system is that the factory recirculating blow off valves have been repositioned into our tubes so they are able to vent to the atmosphere, giving you true wooshing turbo noises just like you’ve always wanted!  Our build quality is also second to none, utilizing 6061 Aircraft grade aluminum, many 5 axis CNC machined components, Professional TIG welding throughout, even we give you this product with the intercooler welded into a factory crash bar which is supplied inside the kit!  You also receive all of the necessary hoses with factory quick disconnect fittings for the cooling system!  No cutting or changing is needed anywhere, it is a direct bolt in product!!!  Easily returned to factory in the event you decided to sell your car without modifications.  There’s practically so many details about this system that make it special it can hard to list them all!  You also receive highly durable stainless steel brackets for both the top and bottom of the radiator, as it is slightly repositioned to allow the fitment of the intercooler and it’s tubing.  We have gone to extreme lengths to give you a product which is truly superb, offering so much more than any other intercooler system in the world!!  Not just for Mercedes, we mean any system in the world.  It’s a result of how complex these cars are from the factory, it was a very serious task for our engineers and R&D department to design and test this product, and it was not simple!  We are super proud of this intercooler system and we could not be more excited to be able to offer it to the public.  Maybe after reading all of these details it can be easy to understand why we are the first to offer this product to the market, it is very complex and with so many bells and whistles, it’s truly a must have addition for this vehicle.  Now you can truly unleash the potential of this monstrous Mercedes twin turbo v8’s power and maintain reliability by upgrading to BlackBoost and eliminating the terrible factory cooling nonsense!
